In Psalm 119:23 David declares, “princes (leaders/people with influence) did sit and speak against me but thy servant did meditate in thy statutes.”

At a time when David’s enemies were stirring up trouble and all kinds of negative talk going on about him, he chose to meditate on God’s Word.  Instead of rehearsing what they were saying, he let it drive him to the Word of God and give his attention to what God was saying. 

The devil has no power to perpetuate anything without our cooperation.  He gets us to take heed or pay attention to the problems he causes us.  All the words he stirs up in people’s minds are not for our meditation. 

Think God’s thoughts by meditating on His Word.  Let what people say only drive you more to what God has said in His Word.
