As we approach this Thanksgiving Holiday, we all have a lot to be thankful for in our lives. The scriptures tell us to give thanks always and in whatever we do Ephesians 5:20; Colossians 3:17. Thanksgiving ought to be a distinguishing characteristic of a Christian’s life. How is this possible or how can we develop a thankful heart? Let me give you the ABC’s of developing a thankful heart.
Acknowledge God as the source of all blessings and every good thing
Psalm 84:11; James 1:17.
- What do you have that you didn’t receive from Him 1 Corinthians 4:7?
Base your thankfulness on unchangeable things Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8.
For example:
- God’s love for you.
- His faithfulness and that He cannot lie.
- His mercy that endures forever.
- The grace of God which is always sufficient.
- The Word of God which is forever settled in Heaven.
- God’s nature and character which are unchangeable.
- He is the all-knowing, all-powerful, everywhere-present God
Credit the contributions of others to your life 1 Timothy 2:1.
- Who among us is not a product of the contributions and influences of others?
- No man is an island unto himself.
- Make giving thanks for others a priority in your prayer life. Perhaps our prayer
life is God’s
workshop where He develops a thankful heart in us.
Happy Thanksgiving!
