Grace Can Keep You From Sin and Sinning

“For sin shall not have dominion over you for you are not under the law but under grace Romans 6:14.”

Jesus came to give us complete victory over sin’s dominion in our life. Many know of the grace that saves or that takes us out of sin (its rule/authority/dominion) but know very little of the grace that sanctifies or that takes sin out of us (acts of sin after salvation). Grace has power to keep us from sinning not just provide forgiveness when we do sin.

Salvation gives us a new position in the spirit from which to relate to sin and the Word of God helps us to grasp it by giving us different pictures of our relationship to sin. While we were “In Adam” we had our lifestyle dominated by spiritual death or our fallen nature, satan, and the lusts of our flesh Ephesians 2:1-3. But God who is rich in mercy and love when we receive His salvation everything changes and we are put in a superior position called “In Christ” Ephesians 2:4-6.

The following pictures are true of the potential you have to keep you from sin.  They are yours by virtue of the position you now have by grace called “In Christ.” Picture #1 Romans 6:1-14 Picture yourself relating to sin as a dead man; salvation involves a crucifixion, death, and burial; death nullifies and separates us from being influenced by its power.

Picture #2 Romans 6:15-23 Picture yourself as a freed slave from an old master; salvation is freedom from an old enslaving master; our freedom releases us from obeying any obligation to yield to his demands.

Picture #3 Romans 7:1-6 Picture yourself unbound from sin like a wife who dies to her old wicked husband; salvation is a death to the legal bonds of marriage to a wicked husband; her death ends any binding relationship.

The power and potential of all of this is ours by grace and went into effect in our new creation spirit, though it is all unseen and unfelt by us when we got saved. We must gain knowledge of all that went into effect in the spirit, our spirit, and the spiritual side of what Jesus did for us. This position we have by grace is to affect our practice or our walk with the Lord. Spend time reading and meditating on these verses until your heart is assured that sin shall not have dominion over you for you are not under the law but under grace.
